Bomber embarks on TwoMills new Riggit Galloway breeding programme

jeremyperkins

In a twist of fate, the planned breeding programme utilising a GCS (solid) black Galloway bull over White Riggit females started today with him turned out with a TwoMills bred White Riggit Galloway bulling heifer belonging to Lewis Gidney of Haughley Herdwicks.

A White Riggit is a red or black pointed White - identical to a White Galloway in looks but the product of a mating between two marked Riggit parents. Roughly one in four calves from a Riggit x Riggit will result in a White Riggit

A White Riggit crossed with a solid (black, red or dun) Galloway should always result (ie 100%) in a marked Riggit calf. Those Riggit heifer calves will go on to be bred to the TwoMills Riggit Galloway team (currently Stonehouse Jack Snipe and Hatherland Leonids but with two super bull calf prospects in the wings - watch this space).

Bomber of Hindhope is a 16 months old Mountbenger Commander Son and the second bull bought from the Elliot Family in the Scottish Borders near Jedburgh

TwoMills Sarah is a black pointed White Riggit out of Foxworthy Lucky Stripe and by Stonehouse Blackbird. I'm very impressed how she's filled out and grown

Bomber will go to TwoMills Elka next March so I can observe her on camera at Christmas / New Year in the building as she is a first calving heifer. He will have a second White Riggit cow after she calves as well as a nucleus herd comprising two foundation Galloway cows; a black heifer and a red cow .

I can't wait to see the results
